Greetings SVCS Choristers and Friends,
Under normal circumstances my annual spring Singers Letter would congratulate those who sang in our spring concerts for making the presentations both “musical and memorable.” I would also be announcing “with great anticipation” the literature, rehearsal schedule, and concert details for our Celebrate America concert in collaboration with the Harrisonburg-Rockingham Concert Band. However, as you know, we are not living under normal circumstances today.
As with so many other fine arts ensembles and music festival gatherings, we are saddened to have to cancel our summer concert plans. With the continued uncertainty surrounding Covid 19, and the health and well being of our ensemble and audience members of utmost importance, the boards of both the SVCS and the Harrisonburg-Rockingham Community Concert Band have canceled our plans for this year’s Celebrate America concert.
Many of you are also aware that the Shenandoah Valley Music Festival and the SVCS were planning a collaborative presentation of Beethoven’s Ninth Symphony with the Richmond Symphony Orchestra on July 18. We have also determined it necessary to cancel our participation in this event. There is a possibility that the concert may happen in the summer of 2021. We all hope that will happen. Stay tuned!
I will miss our celebration of “America’s music.” But, as you know, I will miss most our regular Tuesday rehearsals that bring so much joy to us all as we share our musical journey together.
Please know that I am already planning for our 51st season. Rest assured, you will not want to miss out on a wonderful Christmas concert and an equally inspiring spring concert. And, yes, we will “Celebrate America” next summer.
So, please know that the SVCS is looking forward to the next opportunity for us to safely gather and sing beautiful choral music once again. And as I mentioned in an earlier note, keep a song in your heart, listen to beautiful music, engage with your loved ones, support those in need, and do your part to end this pandemic.
For all of you who support the SVCS whether it is with your beautiful voice or your generous support, thank you. Stay safe and be well.
Yours in Music,
Curtis
